LEADERS: Phil Hill, Todd Rickel and John Gorman
In too many cases, Information Technology can appear to be a “black hole” where there continues to be significant investment without a clear understanding of the need or business value. To be effective, institutional and IT leaders must have a clear picture of how technology should be supporting the strategic needs of the institution.
As an institutional leader, do you know what questions to ask to be sure that you are making the right investments? We will discuss that as well as the following areas:
- Obtaining value from IT: Do your IT Plans support the Business Objectives defined by the Executive Board?
- Making knowledgeable technology decisions: What type of framework or governance should you have in place to review and approve spending plans?
- Major technology projects (example: new student system): What are the key success factors in preparing for, selecting solution, organizing for success, and discipline of delivery?
